Hurt woman killed in single-vehicle accident

HURT — A Hurt woman died as the result of an auto accident that occurred Saturday morning.

Shirley Ann Burnette, 47, of 7360 Blue Ridge Drive in Hurt, was traveling along Blue Ridge Drive at about 9 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle, ran off the right side of the road and overturned. She died at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville about four hours later, State Trooper C.L. Brooks said.

She was not wearing a seat belt, Brooks said. Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, he said.
