Hearing will determine direction of Pittsylvania county lawsuit

CHATHAM — A hearing will be held today in Pittsylvania County Circuit Court to determine whether a lawsuit against the county will be dismissed.

The Board of Supervisors has asked a judge to dismiss Nancy Barbour Smith’s lawsuit requesting a halt to the board’s plans for a 3,500-acre industrial megapark off Berry Hill Road. On Nov. 21, Smith filed a memorandum opposing the county’s request to dismiss.

The hearing will be held at 2:45 p.m. today in Circuit Court in Chatham.

Smith, who lives in the Sandy River area but has an address in Axton, is petitioning Circuit Court to order the Board of Supervisors to hold a public hearing before they decide to allocate $4.19 million toward a bond to help pay for the property.

Smith also is asking the court to prohibit the Board of Supervisors from entering into an agreement that would obligate taxpayers to pay for the bond. Her petition says that even though the board advertised for and held a public hearing Oct. 6 over amending the budget for the bond, it violated Virginia Code because the ad offered no synopsis of the budget amendment.

County Attorney John Light said in the motion to dismiss that the county “never issued bonds for $4.19 million” or approved a bond resolution on Oct. 6.

“Chance Favors the Prepared Mega Site” by Kevin M. Mayer is an interesting follow up article. Communities that snooze lose.

Some comment seems against freespeech. Platitudes like"nothing to do” are getting a bit old. Its the duty of citizens to question and not trust “leaders”. If so then maybe the last Danville mega annexation would not have happened. And speaking of which, isn’t it time for a report on the improvements to the annexed areas which the City has not made? These comments sound like more Institute PR .

As long as we have negative people like Opps and 1dreamer we will be a backward community constantly complaining that “we have nothing to do” in Danville,  They want to sit back and be critical of our officials who are trying to bring jobs to the area.  I expect the folks at Danville Golf Club will be delighted if the Berryhill area is developed into a mega industrial park.  They might get more members and more houses might sell in Forest Hills.

As for all the negative comments forward thinking people are tired of hearing them.

Nancy Barbour Smith needs to get a life. Danville has the highest unemployment in the state because of people like her.

Ford is planning to sell off Volvo (my guess the new owner will move south), VW just moved it’s headquarters to Virginia and is looking to build a new plan for their popular Audi and a new small SUV. All the auto companies want out of Detroit and they are heading this way.

Danville is a natrual. IF SHE’S READY. The Berry Hill location is the closest Virginia site to the new FedEx Mega Hub opening in Greensboro this year. Many parts are imported via air, logistics is everything. This gets two “RIGHT TO WORK” states involved which will add lobbing strength.

The site has everything the auto companies are looking for. It’s well over the 1500 acres needed. It has access to two rail providers and easy highway access (the new Danville Expressway), as well it will have sufficient utilities such as water, sewer, natural gas pipeline , and high-powered electricity.

And VIR track is close by for testing!

Since this “mega-park” is just a stone’s throw from Danville Golf Club & Forest Hills, maybe they will get a wakeup from Walter Coles, resident of the area, and Hawkins, Hurt, Harville,Luther, and gang. If the SC waste dump at Barnwell is placed at the Berry (Bury) Hill site, it will be just and fitting. Imagine the “high society” types breathing the polluted air, drinking the water, and growing cancers….

Another writer on this staff that wants to go unidentified! Is it because you know that something is wrong about this whole deal and you can’t bring yourself to acknowledge?
GO NANCY BARBER! She is the ONLY one that sees the deception. Just yesterday they had a hearing in Chatham over this issue, her lawsuit in the matter. The paper decided to report this meeting the same day as it was scheduled. How many of us work and would not know of this? Another scam from Chatham!
By the way, how is your water in Chatham, it was condemed yesterday?
OBVIOUSLY, no one is worried about our health or infastructure in Pittsylvania county, only re-election based on lies and false intentions.

Berry Hill is downwind from Danville. Is anyone worried about the polution and the clean creeks that run through this area? We already have Blue Ridge Plastics in Eden, and a coming brick company on Berry Hill that is and will be blowing toxins and dust with the jetstream right to Danville. Coy Harville and Dan Sleeper, our ELECTED officials won’t talk to you about it. They say it is on-going only due to they are still trying to buy out homeowners. We go to work so we can eat and play, now we’ll come home to a slow death!
Stand up for your LIFE! We will get jobs some other way!
