Goode linked to movie about homosexuality

Though Congressman Virgil Goode actively opposes any rights for homosexuals, the producer of an R-rated film exploring homosexuality thanks the Rocky Mount Republican in the movie’s closing credits.

“Eden’s Curve” is a 2003 film that has been described as a gay coming of age story at a posh Virginia college. It involves Goode’s press secretary, Linwood Duncan, and is written and produced by Jerry Meadors, who is the artistic director of the North Theatre, a project Goode has supported with federal dollars in the past.

Goode’s name is listed among those Meadors thanks in the film credits.

“I don’t support the movie,” Goode said Wednesday. “I have never seen the movie and never gave them a donation.”

The congressman pointed out that the movie thanked a lot of people and organizations, including the Danville Register & Bee and Danville Parks and Recreation, among others.

Goode has spoken forcefully against rights for homosexual people and strongly supported the Marriage Amendment Act of 2006, which would have made marriage legal only between a man and a woman.

“Eden’s Curve,” according to the Internet movie database, tells the story of a boy who goes to college and becomes involved in a sexual relationship with his male roommate and his roommate’s girlfriend, and a relationship with his male poetry professor. The film’s trailer features homosexual sex scenes and a violent beating.

Meadors co-wrote and produced the film, based on a Danville native’s life. Duncan has a minor role as the dean of the college. A number of other Danville residents are listed in the cast and credits.

Duncan didn’t say anything about his own role in the movie when contacted Tuesday, but said he didn’t know why Meadors would have included Goode’s name in the film credits.

Meadors said Goode had no specific involvement with his controversial film, but thanked him in the closing credits because of his support for other projects.

“In the special thanks, you end up listing anyone who’s ever supported you,” Meadors said Wednesday. “He’s been very supportive of my artistic activities in the city.”

Meadors said he was a big supporter of Goode when he was first running for Congress on the Democratic ticket in 1996.

In 2003, the same year “Eden’s Curve” was produced, Goode earmarked $150,000 in federal taxpayer funds to Danville’s North Theatre.

The Danville Register & Bee at the time questioned Goode’s perceived favoritism with these projects because Duncan and Goode’s wife Lucy are both on the board of the North Theatre.

In 2003, Duncan told the Register & Bee he didn’t see any conflict with the earmarked dollars. “I don’t even know how a question of a conflict even arises,” he said.

I did read the Martinsville story.  Thanks for the suggestion because I never would have seen that Goode’s press secretary says he didn’t read the script or ever see the movie he acted in!

Duncan lives just a few houses away from the movie’s producer and is involved in the theater that played the film.  But more importantly, how gullible do they think Southside voters are to expect us to believe a young actor didn’t read the script of the film he was in or ever go see it when it came out!  It’s not like the guy is doing 10 movies a year or anything.  Goode’s press secretary is lying.  I’m sure he’s had lots of on-the-job trainig.

letstalk, you do not have to shout, I can understand your one sided thinking with out shouting. In case you do not know, everything in caps is shouting and shows ones aggression.
Claiming to want to talk and then shouting is almost as contridictory as claiming one does not know where the money they are appropreatiating is going or the projects it is funding. Is that really the actions of someone who claims they are top of everything that they do?

HE DID NOT SUPPORT THE MOVIE….

HE SUPPORTED THE REVITALIZATION OF THE NORTH THEATER AND THE AREA…WHAT THEY SHOW OR FILM AT THE NORTH, VIRGIL HAS NO CONTROL….

JERRY SAID HE PUT VIRGILS NAME AT THE END OF THE MOVIE BECAUSE HE LIKES WHAT VIRIL STANDS FOR… READ THE ARTICLE IN THE MARTINSVILLE BULLETIN. IT SAYS MORE THAN THE REGISTER AND BEE WHAT JERRY MEADOWS HAS TO SAY ON THE MATTER.

letstalk, So you like that Virgil can bash gays, say racist remarks, claim someone was sworn in on the Koran, lie about immigrants. But when he is caught supporting the things he is against, others cannot point that out?

or maybe this one:  “Virgil Goode: he’ll revitalize Danville by bringing gays from around the country to watch the pro-gay films it makes at the theaters that promote the gay lifestyle he funds with tax payer dollars”

Ok, that might be a little long for a bumper sticker.  But everyone knows the editorial boards and current defenders of Goode’s openess to pro-gay films would be calling for blood if the Democrat had even half the associations with this stuff that Goode does.

I’ll simply reiterate my earlier point.  The on-line movie download site selling this film recommends these others for people who liked Eden’s Curve:  “Eating Out,” “Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds,” and “Head On.”

And this is an interesting defense people are making.  Goode is a great Congressman b/c he supports films that promote the gay life style and gay sex.  Yup, I’m sure we’ll be seing a new bumper sticker from his campaign shortly: “Virgil Goode, the open-minded friend of pro-gay independent films”

The money that Virgil got for the North Theater came to Danville to help to revitalize the North Main Street area. I am not much on theater, but not just movies are being shown there or being made there. It is bringing all kinds of people to Danville to see what we have to off. Plays have been done there. Concerts have also been held there to bring folks to Danville. Many of Danville’s Elite people have an investment in the North. SO BACK OFF ON VIRGIL!!!!!!

So, what makes this movie porn? Is is it x-rated? 99% of all R movies have simulated sex scenes. It’s not porn if it’s a man and a woman, is that it?

Virgil claims the movie came out before the money went to the theater. YES.
“Eden’s Curve premiered at the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival on 6 April 2003”.
Yes, it was before the appropriations of January 2004, but doesn’t that make it all the more important. Doesn’t association mean approval or endorsement?

KFP, by graphic, you mean actors that are pretending to have sex? Somebody must be lonely if they think the act of sex is “graphic” and alarms them. Watch the movie before you try to smear the movie as gay porn.
