Thomas Everett Cox, 47, pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and transportation of cocaine in Virginia, according to court documents.
His sentencing will be Aug. 25 in Pittsylvania County Circuit Court.
Deputies arrested Cox on Feb. 11 after they searched his car and found four ounces of cocaine. The drugs had a street value of $11,200. Cox was driving westbound on U.S. 58 when he was pulled over.
Cox also will appear in Danville General District Court on July 24 for a misdemeanor assault charge.
Cynthia Michelle Haley filed the criminal complaint May 4, the day after she said Cox hit her in the face during an argument in his car in front of Haley’s house. Haley said she tried to into her house, but Cox tackled her, according to the complaint.
Cox is a former president and co-owner of Cox & Goodridge Insurance in Danville, a former candidate for the Danville School Board and the former co-owner of the House of Legends Sports Pub & Grille on South Main Street, which had its own legal trouble.
As the restaurant owner, Cox was found guilty of willful failure to pay more than $9,000 in food and beverage taxes. He didn’t pay the taxes from September 2004 until August 2007.
A judge ordered Cox to pay $10,042.98 in taxes and penalties. His 20-day prison sentence was suspended.

RANDYDOWDY I am surprised you are so forgiving of this man. Normally, your posts are very strongly opposed to criminal activity. This man is putting drugs on the streets, which in my opinion is one of the worst crimes you can commit. It definitely feeds the other crimes committed in Danville, i.e. Murder, Robbery, Breaking and Enterings, etc. It’s men like this, who probably had a decent upbringing, who infuriate me.
Thanks for pointing out to MyOpinion that the money that “did not add up” was for his tax problem. The article was clear he will be sentenced on the drug charges in August. Also, Cox is NOT on the School Board. He was “a former candidate” as the story said, but that’s all. Things will add up correctly Aug. 25th.
MyOpinion,
Just FYI, the only punishment the article reports is for the tax evasion crime. None of the other charges have gone through the sentencing portion of the trial, yet. The article could have been more clear on the subject, though.
This is a joke…“His 20-day prison sentence was suspended”.
It looks like the only thing he got punished for was not paying his taxes.
Just think he is on our school board, what a great influence for our children. He did not pay his food tax for 3 years of $9000.00 and had a street value of drugs on him at $11,200.00 and only had to pay $10,042.98. Something just don’t add up.
His butt should pull time like anyone else beating the system. Folks like him is part of our reason for being in this nasty economy crunch we are in.
If he was caught and plead guilty to this charge, odds are he got away with many other crimes.
Randy that is the case he is truly guilty and must pay for his crime of drug dealing which was ruining lives of others, once he pulls his time which he should get then he can start his life again,he can never truly put his crime behind him, stupidity and greed have gotten a lot of people in trouble and Cox is one of them.
I hope he truly is guilty of everything he pled guilty to. Sometimes that is not the case. But he has started to put this thing behind him now. It will follow him forever, but you just have to keep your head up and go on with life.
