From staff reports

First Citizens Bank will move from 1500 Piney Forest Road to a 2,600-square-foot branch at 1296 Piney Forest Road in Danville on Monday, according to a news release.

Staff will relocate to the new branch on Friday.

The bank also plans to install a walk-up ATM in the coming weeks to serve the downtown market at 530 Main St, the release stated. The machine will be operational in December.

The new Piney Forest branch will house a lobby, office and conference room. The location will feature two drive-through lanes and a drive-up ATM lane.

“Our new Piney Forest office is a significant upgrade to our branch network and will give our customers improved access to our banking services,” First Citizens Area Executive Eddie Herndon said via news release. “We’re excited about this new branch, which will allow us to serve our personal and business banking clients in Danville for many years to come.”

The hours of operation at the Piney Forest office will remain the same. Drive-through lanes are open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Lobby hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 to 5 p.m. Lobby hours are extended to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays.

The full-service office will offer a complete line of financial services: deposit accounts, loans, leasing and mortgage products as well as trust, insurance and wealth management services.

First Citizens has four branches in Danville and two in Chatham.

Founded in 1898, the bank operates 373 branches in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, California and Washington.

Poor planning by VDOT and the City of Danville forced this to happen when the intersection of Piney Forest and Route 41 was “redesigned”. Convenient that a branch of First State Bank closed. By the way, Wachovia now belongs to Wells Fargo….doubtful if you will ever see another branch here!!

The old First Citizen’s on the corner of 41 and Piney Forest was so hard to get to after the intersection improvements.  Thank you for moving.  The new one near Nor Dan seems better.

Now it would be nice if Wachovia moved into either the old American National on Riverside or in the old First Citizens on Piney Forest.
