Sorry if mt comment hurt you. The paper did not state anymore facts. I’m also sorry for the pain you and the family most be going through.
I am his daughter. And to the insensitive idiot who remarked about “control”, my father was probably one of the best motorcyclists in the city of Danville. He’s been on some sort of motorbike since he was 6 years old. He was the only person I felt safe riding with. He had excellent control of the bike. And to those who were wondering, he was being chased by dogs. What do you do when chased by a dog? You speed up! They say he was going somewhere near 80-90 mph. He hit a knoll and the wheels lost contact with the ground. Needless to say, he hit a mailbox. For future people commenting, please think before you post something. It really hurts our feelings when we see snide, insensitive remarks like this.
He had to been exceding 25 mph to have knocked that mail box over??
OSoGRANDE, I’m sticking to facts right now. No where in this article does it say that this man swerved to miss anything. I ride a Harley and I ride often so don’t think I don’t know what I’m talking about. Only 26 yrs. of experience here!
As for me being brain dead, I just try not to let my imagination run wild when I read these stories. Unless you were with MR. Matherly, you have no idea what happened. Therefore your logic is irrelevant and you are just making things up in your mind. Knucklehead!
I’m sorry for this families loss, I may even know this guy if I seen him. May the wind always be on his backside.
I have been a life-long rider, and it is sad to see anyone “go down”! My prayers are with his family, I lost a really good friend to a motorcycle wreck barely a year ago on westover drive, Mark you are still missed as well !
You would think people would realize that sometimes people have accidents that aren’t their fault. People swerve to avoid things that are more valuable than mailboxes. The penalty for trying to miss a child in the roadway, for instance, should not be a death sentence because someone erected a concrete pillar to house his mailbox. But, I think most people posting here are far too ignorant to think that far ahead before posting a ridiculous comment.
Jenks and Petiej: if a child/grandchild of yours runs in front of me and I don’t have time to stop, should I just hit him/her? Is that your logic? Are you that brain-dead?
sorry for the families loss its people around here that dont care
Perhaps we are all missing the point here, a man lost his life, and a family lost their husband and a father. I do not find this an appropriate time for sarcastic remarks such as try not to hit drain pipes and mailboxes and maintain control. Maybe you would fair better to what the circumstances were; possibly he swerved to avoid an oncoming car in the wrong lane or someone’s pet or a deer. This is not a time to point fingers or lay blame on the homeowners, the DOT or a grieving family. God bless and comfort this family in the many long nights they have ahead of them as they try to carry on their lives without their father and husband.
The trees aren’t “break away”, and it is ridiculous to require the homeowners to have to repeatedly replace vandalized mailboxes. If they do, then the state should come out and replace them each time they are damaged. Til then, don’t run off the road, lose control, and you won’t have to worry about it.
My prayers do go out to the family though. A loss is a hard time period to get over, no matter what the cost.
The “monster mailbox” as was mentioned should have the same specs covering it as with anything the state D.O.T. erects on the highway. The mailbox is sitting on state property. Even the state considers the breakaway factor in the construction of its road signs. The “monsters” are even a hazard to autos.
My thoughts are with the family.
