Dry Fork man dies after being ejected from SUV
A Dry Fork man died after he was ejected from the SUV he was driving, which then hit another car head-on in Pittsylvania County on Tuesday night, according to Virginia State Police.
Timothy Wayne Powell, 25, was pronounced dead at Danville Regional Medical Center shortly after 10 p.m., said Sgt. Robert Carpentieri, state police public information officer. The wreck occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Rt. 750 (Whitmell School Road) just north of Rt. 866.
According to the report, the 1984 Chevy Tahoe Powell was driving ran off the side of the roadway and he was ejected from the SUV. Carpentieri said it did not appear Powell was wearing a seatbelt. The Tahoe then veered back onto the roadway and struck a 2007 Ford Fusion head-on.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, Carroll Lee Cooper, was treated and released from Danville Regional Medical Center.
State police are still investigating the wreck.

Having travelled extensively on Whitmell school Road it is not uncommon to see almost EVERYONE driving between 40-60+ mph everyday! There are a lot of blind hills and sharp curves with minimal space on the sides of the road if any.
I agree with jfancy, and will add this family in my prayers tonight, it is hard to lose a loved one, but ESPECIALLY hard to lose a child!
My heart goes out to both family’s.. I came down that stretch of road yesterday and saw several cars that were speeding and I thought if they had of ran of the roadway it would have been very terrible..You see it everyday on that road speeding..Espically right thru the school area..
