DANVILLE — Danville Regional Medical Center decided to dissolve its “float pool” of nurses, Leslie Smith, director of public relations, said in an e-mail Thursday. The program wasn’t being used as originally intended, she said.

The pool comprised 18 cross-trained nurses who could offer care in different patient-care areas. The nurses were given the opportunity to work in different units from week to week, Smith continued. All of the nurses were offered different nursing positions within the hospital.

The medical center reviews its staffing levels daily to ensure they meet patient care needs, she said.

LifePoint Hospitals Inc. owns and operates Danville Regional Medical Center.
