DANVILLE — Officials found a missing 10-year-old boy early Wednesday morning and charged his mother with felony child neglect, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.

The boy’s mother, Annie Jan Eman, 31, has been released on bond.
Officers went to the 600 block of Monument Street at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after Eman called to say her son had gone fishing at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and hadn’t come home.

A Virginia State Police helicopter, Danville Fire Department, Danville Police Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew and its dive team began looking for the boy. Public safety officers used night vision and found him fishing on an island near Dan Daniels Park with four of his friends shortly after 4 a.m.

Officials returned the boy to his grandfather.

WAKG always has more details than the R&B..I read their news first.

According to WAKG she was arrested around midnight for prostitution.  Guess she was more interested in herself than knowing where her child was.  People like this don’t deserve children.  While everyone was out searching for this child she was out on the street doing her thing!  Hope the grandfather gets custody of this child!

Mom should have known where her kids were. 10 year olds don’t know that there are dangers out there.

All the press releases said the same thing. You can even go on to the Police dept web site and see it. I thought when it come to reporting you always wanted to give the whole story not just half of it.  No we are talking about the paper. that is why we have the comment section. The rest is filled in here.

Shorty - That does take it to another level.  Under those circumstances, yes it would appear the charge is appropriate.  Unfortunately, the R&B didn’t say anything about the prostitution charge so that left out a pretty big part of the picture.  I wish they wouldn’t do that.

The reason she did not call police until 12:30am is because she did not know he was not home, since she was out on the streets trying to put out. Thats another way our tax dollars are spent, State Police helicopter, Danville Fire Department, Danville Police Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew and its dive team are out looking for her son while she is looking for a lay! She does not deserve him or to be back out on our streets. However I am glad he is okay.

Yes the mother should be charged, I wish I would send my 10 year old off fishing and not know who he is with….It is the parents responsibility to know who their children are with, exactly where they are going, and when they will be back.

Rockit, go to WAKGs website.  Mother was also charged with prostitution last night.  Maybe thats why she was charged with child neglect!

Why is the mother charged with anything here?  Is it because the boy was with friends and not with adults?  She called authorities after it got late.  Maybe she should have called earlier but this seems like overkill.  If anything, it’s the kid that deserves a spanking, not his mother.
