A North Carolina man whom investigators say owes Danville Harvest Jubilee $85,000 turned himself into police Friday morning.

John Burton Vick, 35, of Edenton, N.C., was wanted on two warrants charging him with obtaining money under false pretenses, according to a Danville Police Department news release.

Vick turned himself into the Danville Police Department at about 10 a.m., said Lt. Mike Mondul. He was released on a $6,000 unsecured bond.

Vick’s attorney, James Reynolds, issued a news release Friday.

“Mr. Vick is confident that the evidence will show that he never intended to defraud anyone and certainly not the City of Danville or the Harvest Jubilee Foundation,” the release said. “Mr. Vick looks forward to a trial on the merits.”

Last month, Vick was also arrested on a felony bad check charge in Edenton and released under the condition that he show up for court proceedings in Danville, according to a police department release. The $35,000 check is linked to the Jubilee charges, the release said.

An estimated $50,000 is involved in the charges of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Concert organizers have said the shows scheduled at the Carrington Pavilion and Fridays at the Crossing will continue as planned.

Jubilee’s own news release on the charges said organizers don’t know what happened to the missing money. When contacted about it, the promoter agreed to return the money but has not done so.

Jubilee is the nonprofit organization that promotes the historic Tobacco Warehouse District through organizing entertainment and concerts at the Carrington and at Crossing.

Maybe a local would have worked out better.

I’ll never understand why we must go outside our area to hire somebody to run a local show ?

This guy looks normal.  He looks like one of those “real Americans” I hear so much about nowadays.  He appears to be just a “good ole boy”. I guess it’s all a mistake, he’s just misunderstood.  Yeah, that’s it. How could a guy who looks like this possibly be involved in criminal activity.  It’s amazing how “thugs” create such havoc and reap such small returns for their effort.  But, an alleged crook with an acceptable look who can be described as “one of us” by some folks can rob people blind because of a non-threatening approach.  I wonder how many violent robberies it would take to make the money this alleged criminal made because he looks “normal” and was able to secure the confidence of his alleged victims.  The point is bad people come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Baggie jeans and nice suits. All criminal activity against society is wrong no matter the hue of the culprit.

I wonder if he’s smiling in his mug shot because he thinks he’s going to get away with fraud or he’s thinking about his summer Cancun vacation he’s going to take?
