DANVILLE — The Danville fire marshal’s office suspects arson in a fire that destroyed several units at Cabin Lake Thursday morning.
The fire broke out at around 3:45 a.m. Thursday at 100 Cherokee Court, starting on an outside deck, according to the fire marshal’s office.
About two dozen firefighters and six chief officers responded to the blaze.
The fire damaged or destroyed 24 units. Those units were unoccupied and under renovation at the time of the fire. No one was injured, said Bryan Shields, acting assistant chief for the Danville Fire Department.
At about 11 a.m. Thursday, five engines and two aerial devices were still on the scene for the cleanup.
A white male or light-skinned black male was seen leaving the area just before the fire was discovered. The suspect, wearing dark clothes and what was believed to be a white hood, was seen walking toward Piney Forest Road.
The fire was third such incident in 12 years at Cabin Lake. A 1997 fire damaged or destroyed 56 units there and another hit 36 units there in 1999.
Anyone with information about this incident can contact Danville Crime Stoppers at 434-793-000 or at . Citizens who contact Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Thanx oreo!! A bag of “rock” and a bottle of MD20/20 will get one almost anything… Hopefully, the person who set the fire will turn states evidence, and the only deal this individual is convicted of will determine “who wears the dress with Bubba!!!“
Seraph, I think you hit the nail on flint rock!!!
The whole complex has become nothing more than a slum, it should be bull-dozed and the residents relocated.
It happens as often as when the insurance carrier pays off!!! No enigma here folks… Just check and see who the recipient of the policy is…
Duh, Sherlock
I’ll bet Lee Harvey Oswald did this also…...... :P
Man, somebody wants this place burned down. What is that, like, three fires in 15 years?
how many times a year does this happen?
