Blockbuster in Danville to close

From staff reports

The Blockbuster store on Enterprise Drive near Piedmont Mall is closing today, a spokesman said.

The Danville store was not part of corporate-run stores as it is a franchise location, said Randy Hargrove, a spokesman for Blockbuster Inc.

“It’s a business decision that the franchisee made,” Hargrove said.

The owner is not doing interviews at this time.

Residents can still drop off movie rentals at the on-site drop box, he added.

While Blockbuster Inc. is evaluating its store portfolio, this closure is unrelated, Hargrove added.

Another Danville business closing does not suprise me. Danville needs to wake up and support the area businesses… and please do NOT give me the higher price excuse. WE DON’T MIND PAYING MORE AT THE GAS PUMPS. WE ARE ALWAYS FILLING UP OUR TANKS TO GO ELSE WHERE.

Very sad for the employees, I wish them all well, but it’s not that surprising given the rise of Internet video rental. I suspect the overall lackluster offerings from the entertainment industry have contributed to the demise as well. Good luck to the employees there.
