Seven young Danville band camp participants will open for Groove Train during Fridays at The Crossing this week.

The students spent the week at Riverland Music in Danville, getting instruction, practicing and attending workshops.

“The Rock Band Camp includes presentations on things like equipment — like how to use a microphone — and how to work together as a group,” said Lauren Aquilo, who, with her husband, Norman, owns Riverland Music.

The students — Skyler Tuggle, 12; Josh Francisco, 11; Rachel Royster, 14; Sam Ross, 14; Austin Francisco, 15; Danielle Griffin, 15; and Max Brande, 11 — will perform five songs, beginning at 6 p.m.

Aquilo said the students will be performing “Turn Up the Radio,” by Autograph; “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” by Twisted Sister; “Photograph,” by Def Leppard; “Nothin’ But A Good Time,” by Poison and “Rock N Roll All Nite,” by KISS.

The Harvest Jubilee concert series at the Carrington Pavilion takes place the first Friday of each month, from May through September. The Friday performance by Groove Train is part of family night, and will include various activities, rides and crafts displays.

Admission to Fridays at The Crossing is $3 for per person; children 12 and under are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult.

I’m happy to see some positive news about kids in our community.  I can’t wait to see them perform.
