City unemployment rises because of furlough

Unemployment in Danville jumped from 8.8 percent in September to 11.8 percent in October, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. A furlough at Danville’s Goodyear plant was seen as the main reason for the unemployment increase. The city of Danville had the second highest jobless rate in the state.
