City Attorney W. Clarke Whitfield said his investigation of Jerry Gwaltney found the former city manager violated City Code and policy — but to Whitfield’s knowledge, the city isn’t pursuing any charges against Gwaltney.
Whitfield found that Gwaltney authorized $465,000 in extra funds for the Coleman MarketPlace project without City Council approval. Whitfield was responding via e-mail to a Danville Register & Bee question about pursuing charges against Gwaltney.

Maute wants to know if megapark is protected

Karen Maute, who lives in Pittsylvania County, proposed a resolution to the board and wants Danville City Council and the Danville Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facilities Authority to sign the resolution along with the county.
Virginia budget outlook worsens; shortfall could grow

Council still working on anti-chaining ordinance
Danville City Council held a second public hearing during its regular meeting Tuesday on a proposed ordinance that will sharply curtail the time animals can be chained in yards.
Several rows in City Council chambers were filled with supporters of the proposal, which will make it a Class 4 misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $250 if pets are left chained for more than three hours in any 24-hour period.

TEA Party snuffs out bonfire
