About 700 people show up for area’s first community health fair
At least 700 people lined up to get screened for health indicators ranging from cholesterol and blood pressure to pulmonary function and dental problems at the Community Health Fair held at Danville Community College’s new Foundation Hall on Saturday.
DRMC residency program taking root
Educators and DRMC staff developed a medical education program five years ago. Because of student interest in returning to the hospital for their postgraduate residencies, VCOM has worked with the hospital for the past three years to establish a residency program.
Caswell Family Medical Center planning to expand services, facilities
Patient satisfaction is what it’s all about, a local health clinic leader said. Between 1,200 and 1,500 patients come through Caswell Family Medical Center in Yanceyville, N.C., each month, Chief Executive Officer Shirley Deal said. The patients give the clinic feedback in satisfaction surveys, which also can point to what patients would like to see the clinic offer in the future. Patients wanted to see more specialists, specifically in dermatology and podiatry, to come in and offer their services at the clinic, Deal said.

Information sought on mistreated dogs in Danville
The Danville Area Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about two recent cases of mistreated dogs.
M.T. Sorrell awarded tax credits for its donors
M.T. Sorrell, a non-profit residential home in Blairs for mentally disabled adults, has been award $5,000 in state tax credits from the Neighborhood Assistance Program administered by the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Free tax preparation offered in Dan River Region

Dennis Lee Daniel testified Friday that he killed Courtney Marie Servais on Dec. 19. He said that he snapped after she mentioned his son’s name. Courtney had an affair with Daniel’s son.
