A conversation about race
The recent controversy surrounding a mural off Washington Street in Eden is added proof this country still struggles with the issue of race.
Now that we’re talking about it, we must be sure to promote an honest, civil conversation about the issue. Eden would be as good a place as any to begin.
Is Rockingham reading?
Rockingham Reads! is an initiative by the Rockingham County library to get people to read and to offer works that will lead to a healthy debate and discussion about a variety of important issues, race and cultural differences among them.
It’s a shame that so few people are participating this year.

News of a company expanding in Rockingham County is good — but rare — news. The remaining textile manufacturers are teetering, and the tobacco industry — with a few exceptions, such as the General Tobacco plant in Mayodan — is all but gone in Rockingham County.
