Former GW running back David Wilson makes splash in pages of Sports Illustrated

George Washington High graduate and incoming Virginia Tech running back David Wilson appears in the July 13 issue of Sports Illustrated in the magazine’s “Faces in the Crowd” feature.
Wilson racked up 414 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 33 carries and also caught four passes for 52 yards in three games while helping the United States win the inaugural International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship tournament Sunday at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
The 5-foot-10, 192-pound running back was named the tournament’s MVP after the United States defeated Canada 41-3 in the championship game.
Wilson, ranked by Rivals.com as the fourth-best running back in the country and the 40th-best prospect overall, has received numerous honors during his prep career, including being named the 2008 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year. He is also the two-time defending Nike Indoor National triple jump champion.
Wilson rushed for 2,291 yards and scored 35 touchdowns while setting single-season and single-game rushing records during his senior season at GW.
Gretna quarterback Nick Miller was the last player from this area to appear in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” feature after leading the Hawks to the Group A state championship as a freshman two years ago.
