After winning the second race of the season, Ringgold resident Jarrett Milam could not buy a solid finish, even when it appeared he had the strongest car for 30 laps.

Ever since the calendar turned to June, Milam has not been able to lose.

Milam passed Chris Crosby on lap 40 and led the final 11 laps to win his fourth consecutive Pure Stock race at South Boston Speedway Friday night in the first race of the Bailey’s 200 Whelen All-American Late Model Series program.

“It means the world to me,” Milam said. “I’d rather have this one than any of them. It’s the first time I’ve run a 50-lap race.”

Milam and his father, Jack, quickly worked their ways from the middle of the pack to the front within a matter of laps. Jack ran second to Crosby for most of the race while Jarrett was on his bumper.

Crosby led the first 39 laps and appeared to have the car to beat until Jarrett beat him into Turn 1 on lap 40.

Crosby finished second and Jack Milam finished third. Mickey Cassidy and Joe Allred III rounded out the top five.

“We had so much bad luck,” Jarrett Milam said. “I don’t know if we have a shot at the championship, but we’re going to give it a heck of a run.”
