Team USA running back David Wilson continued his dominance of international competition during a 55-0 manhandling of Mexico on Wednesday in the second round of the inaugural International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship tournament at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.

Wilson, a Danville native, GW graduate and Virginia Tech recruit, rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries to lead the Americans offensively. He had a long run of 50 yards and also had one catch for 25 yards.

Wilson racked up four touchdowns and 181 yards on 12 carries in an opening-round 78-0 throttling of France on Saturday, when he received the pre-game honor of carrying the American flag onto the field.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. It’s overwhelming,” Wilson told the Akron Beacon Journal earlier this week. “There are not enough words to describe to be able to represent your country; just the pride that you have in your country and being able to show the world the pride that you carry in your country.”

The 5-10, 192-pound Wilson is ranked by Rivals.com as the fourth-best running back in the country and the 40th prospect overall. He’s received numerous honors during his prep career, including being named the 2008 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year.

He is also the two-time defending Nike Indoor National triple jump champion.

Wilson rushed for 2,291 yards and scored 35 touchdowns during his senior season at GW. He is one of two Virginia Tech recruits on Team USA’s roster, joining linebacker Tariq Edwards.

The second-seeded Americans face top-seeded Canada, a 38-35 winner against Japan, for the tournament championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.

I am so proud of this young man. He is really a nice person. I asked his dad how did he produce such a nice young man with so much talent and grace, his answer,“lots of prayers.“

May God Bless this family.
