Betterton leads Gretna to victory against Altavista

CHATHAM — Gretna’s Robbie Betterton shot a 38 to lead the Hawks to a 171-179 victory against Altavista on Tuesday at Cedars Country Club
Michael Mayhew had a 42, Tyler Lecik had a 44 and Mark Marstin had a 47 for Gretna (3-1), which hosts Nelson County and Appomattox at Cedars on Tuesday.

Arnold, Shelton help Chatham best Appomattox
CHATHAM — Drew Arnold and Stanley Shelton both shot a 39 as Chatham defeated previously unbeaten Appomattox 158-163 at Cedars Country Club.
Rachel Nicholson, Jake Hardy and Jesse Wells each shot 40s for Chatham (6-0). Patrick Franklin shot a 37 for Appomattox and Tyler Mullins chipped in with a 41.

Chatham brushes aside George Washington

Chatham defeated George Washington 25-9, 25-11, 25-15 on Tuesday in Danville. Chatham’s Katelyn Dockery had nine aces, a kill and two assists, Shayna Keen had seven kills and two aces and Julie Motley had six kills and one block.
Erica Saunders had two kills and two digs and Austin Holley had three kills for GW (0-6), which hosts Gretna today.
The Cavaliers’ junior varsity team also defeated GW 25-16, 27-25. Carley Taylor had six aces and Brianna Hess had 10 service points for Chatham, which visits Dan River on Thursday. Courtney Mendenhall had five service points and Shontell White had four service points for GW.

BY blasted in fifth set against Rockingham
REIDSVILLE — Bartlett Yancey was blasted in the fifth set as Rockingham won 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 15-25, 15-2 on Tuesday.
Morgan Simpson had 26 assists, one ace and three kills for BY (1-3, 1-2 Triad). Rachel Shumaker had 17 digs, 15 kills, three blocks and two aces. Jesse Burton had nine digs, five kills, four aces and one block. Mikayla Seamster had nine digs, four kills and four aces. Tayler Oakley had 12 digs. BY hosts Western Alamance on Thursday.

Tunstall guts out victory against Halifax County
DRY FORK — Tunstall remained undefeated this season by gutting out a very competitive 25-21, 22-25, 14-25, 25-20, 15-11 victory against Halifax County.
Catelyn Stephens had seven points, two aces and 24 kills for the Trojans, who improved to 5-0. Megan Dillion had 16 points, four aces and 10 kills. Taylor Hite had seven points, three aces and seven kills. Amanda Gibson had service points 10 through 14 as Tunstall won the final set.
Tunstall visits Gretna on Thursday.
Halifax County dealt Tunstall’s JV team its first loss of the season by winning 27-25, 24-26, 15-12. Taylor Wray had nine points and two aces for Tunstall (4-1) and Alex Seamster had eight points and three aces.

Undefeated Bartlett Yancey cruises past Morehead

EDEN — Juliana White and Taylor Brandon won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, by the same score as Bartlett Yancey defeated Morehead 8-1 on Tuesday to improve to 5-0.
White defeated Tori Huffman and Brandon defeated Chelsea Robertson by identical 10-4 scores, Kristen Thomas topped Meredith Hilliard 10-3 and Elizabeth Eastep knocked off Jesse Rexrode 10-2. Morehead’s Keely Snyder defeated Amanda Butts 10-3 and BY’s Rebecca Denny defeated Kimberly Hall 10-3.
In doubles action, White/Brandon topped Huffman/Robertson 8-3, Thomas/Eastep bested Hilliard/Rexrode 8-2 and Butts/Denny won 8-4 against Snyder/Hall.
