Gretna clinches first Dogwood regular-season crown
ALTAVISTA — Gretna scored two runs in the top of the ninth and held on to beat Altavista 3-2 on Friday. The victory gave the Hawks their first Dogwood District regular-season title.

That set up Ceseley Haynes, who drove in Meadows with a single. But Altavista tied the game in the fifth on Mallory Greene’s RBI single.
The two teams stayed knotted until the top of the ninth. Meadows knocked in Savanna Butts for the go-ahead run. She then stole second and third before scoring on Sarah Scruggs’ single.
Altavista (10-3 Dogwood) put up one run in the bottom of the inning, but the Hawks shut the door. Gretna ace Teresa Dalton went the distance and struck out 11. Dalton and Cheryl Crews both doubled, Meadows finished 2-for-4 and Scruggs was 2-for-3.
