D-Braves comeback falls short against Pulaski
Danville’s attempted rally from five runs down in the ninth inning fell short as the D-Braves fell 8-5 to the Pulaski Mariners on Sunday night in Pulaski.
Danville (7-6), which has lost two consecutive games for the first time this season and three of its last four, allowed Pulaski (3-10) to score three times in the first inning and trailed the rest of the way.
Jordan Kreke went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs and L.V. Ware, Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg and Robert Hefflinger each connected for a pair of base hit for Danville. Spanjer-Furstenburg, who had a 10-game hitting streak snapped Saturday, added three RBIs.
Chris Masters took the loss for Danville after allowing five runs — two of them earned — on six hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out five.
Tim Morris knocked in a run with a double in the first inning to hand Pulaski a 1-0 lead. Vincent Catricala staked the Mariners to a 3-0 lead before the inning was out with a two-RBI single to left.
Danville twice cut its deficit to a single run but was unable to tie the game.
The D-Braves pulled to within 3-2 when Spanjer-Furstenburg singled to score a pair of runs in the third inning and clawed to within 4-3 on an RBI single by Ware in the fourth.
Pulaski scored twice more in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in both the sixth and seventh inning to take an 8-3 advantage.
Cory Harrilchak singled to score a run in the ninth and Spanjer-Furstenburg tacked on another with a sacrifice fly before Pulaski notched the final out thanks to a pop out to left.
