Tyrod Taylor to play for Hokies Saturday
Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor

Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer says Tyrod Taylor will play this weekend against Furman.
Coach Beamer said today he took the redshirt off the sophomore, saying the move is “in the best interests of the team.”
Beamer had last week announced he would redshirt Taylor, which meant Sean Glennon, the Hokies’ fifth-year senior quarterback, would start.
Coach Beamer did not say whether Taylor, or Sean Glennon would start. Beamer said neither player would be available for interviews by the media this week, so they could concentrate on preparing for Furman.
The reversal comes after a heartbreaking loss to East Carolina University this past Saturday in Charlotte. Glennon performed poorly, throwing two interceptions including one within the Hokies’ 5-yard-line. That turnover led to an ECU touchdown.
The Hokies also battled a lack of game experience, which Coach Beamer worried about before the game. Tech played eight true freshmen, and ten total players who made their first collegiate start against ECU.
Redshirting is the practice of delaying an athlete’s participation to extend his or her time period of eligibility.
