Westbound bridge-tunnel requires weekend fix

NORFOLK — A state transportation system spokeswoman says cleanup and repairs will continue throughout the weekend on a faulty pump system that prompted the westbound tube of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to close.

Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Lauren Hansen says workers were still pumping water out of a pump house Friday afternoon and won’t likely start assessing the damage until Saturday.

Hansen blamed power outages from a storm for a damaged pump and possible water main break that wasn’t discovered until Thursday morning.

The closure caused massive traffic backups throughout the day and prompted an outcry from local officials.

Probaby those who are having or needing to use it do care.  The don’t care attitude seems to be permeating our nation as a whole.
