A Reidsville man reportedly shot by an off-duty state trooper the night of Dec. 22 has died. Patrick Martin Curry, 27, was pronounced dead at 8:35 a.m. Monday, according to Doug Allred, a spokesman for Moses Cone Hospital.

Shortly after 9 p.m. the night of the shooting, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at 151 Oak Level Court outside Reidsville. The rural neighborhood is in the Midway community southwest of Reidsville.

Someone arrived at the trooper’s home, a disturbance followed and the man was shot, the sheriff’s office reported. The man shot was later identified as Curry, who was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting.

The trooper was later identified as G.S. Grissom, 46. According to reports from WFMY News 2, Grissom called 911 twice the night of Dec. 22 - once to report that someone with a gun was trespassing on his property and again to inform dispatch that he had just shot the trespasser, who, Grissom said, was assaulting him.

Grissom joined the N.C. Highway Patrol in October 1992. He is assigned to Troop D in Rockingham County. Grissom is on administrative duty, following standard procedure when a trooper is involved in a shooting. He has not been charged. The State Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the incident.

Neighbors were reluctant to talk about the shooting Monday. Curry’s family also declined comment Monday.

The sad thing is, my family has been through the same thing.  Officer Key was dating my x-aunt and my uncle was killed and it was ruled accidential suicide.  When everyone knows what really happened and the police did nothing about it.

i am completely sickened by the comments some people have left. does anyone realize that this man left behind a family? a mother, father, small child, etc. does it even occur to you opinionated jackasses that no matter what choices he made that night he didnt deserve to die? this could have easily been someone you knew or worse, your family member. get a life and stop meddling in others pain and sorrow. and while i am at it, taking a cheap shot at the “jones family” abnd the mess they have made, that was a low blow too. we cannot control what our grown children do and this family is suffering too. People need to have a heart and be thankful for what they have in life. My prayers go out to ALL involved in this terrible tragedy and yours should too.

My prayers to all of those involved.

First and foremost: Those who protect and serve are trained to shoot in the largest part of the body, too shoot some one in the leg or hand is just in the movies.

The Trooper was unknowingly caught in the middle of a mess. The girl was playing both sides of the fence and telling the truth to no one.

She was spending time with both.

As for his cheating wife, well it is like two peas in a pod. From what I understand the recently deceased has a small child with another woman, if I were a thinking person; I would be led to believe that is what started this whole thing. And as for the pistol curry had on him, it was not the first time it was pulled on someone.

What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive.

I am very sorry to see anything end this way, but it happens all too much these days.

What was that old Lynard Skynard song (Give me three steps).

i see that they failed to mention that inside that house was patricks wife, and thats why he went over there,. i feel so sorry for the currys, patrick made a bad choice going over there he should have let the man have his cheating wife and find someone else. so i guess the jones family are real proud of the mess she made!

first i would like to say my prayers go out to the family of both /now how can you people get so upset when the papers do there job to inform the people of whats going on in this small town is it that it is a law offical lets keep in mind that after all he is a trained offical he could have stayed in his house until his people got there but he decide to take matters in his on hands thats what he wanted anyway think about it ,if it was that serious he could have shot the man in the foot the hand they are trained to know where to shot to kill or should i say stop a person but if this would have been a drug dealer or robber that have done something to your family you would want the city to know about this person also you all are so hipercrictal and so what if thats not spelled right because thats how small you people are to worrie about the spelling get real this is 2009 thank god for your life and your familys life and let the people do there job and he needs to be in jail,i dont care who he is its time we show the world everyone should be treated equal.

This is irresponsible journalism!  I cannot understand why the media is approaching this terrible and tragic incident from this angle!  The fact that the media-this paper- would put a picture of this trooper’s house on the cover of their paper, as well as the inclusive and suggestive headline, as opposed to a picture of the victim baffles me.  I feel sorry for all parties involved.  Someone lost a son, a friend.  On the other hand, another, albeit defending himself, has to live with the fact he contributed to taking someone’s life. It is for neither me nor anyone else to pass judgment.  Let’s so a little respect, journalists.  That’s the real story!

what is the big deal about showing the officers photo, there was one available, so it was shown, it would have been done for anyone else. Also, the person shot until the investigation is fully completed is considered the “victim”, after all, he is dead. And the only reason why this killer isn’t is jail right now is because he is an officer, anybody else would be locked up right now. He saw the man obviously and called the police, why didn’t he wait until they got there, or if he necessarily had to shoot, why not just shoot him in the leg or something. We’ll never get the whole story, and it sounds like there’s a juicy one behind this one.

Before you pass judgment on anybody, just remember;
Most humans are creatures of emotion- not logic.
Those who protect and serve are the ones that think logically and do not go to someone’s house and attack them with out of control emotions.
Let’s do the math:
One man shot, who could have shot two people.
Last time I checked the girl was separated from her estranged husband for six months. If she still had feelings for her ex she would not have went to the house on her own free will. (we are still in America –right!!!!!!!)

I see that nobody has mentioned that a woman was in the troopers house at the time of the shooting. The woman was the victims wife hhmmm.

I agree both families are in need of our prayer’s. This is so sad, as I have stated in previous comment’s I know Trooper Grissom and I do feel for him and his family, but my heart aches for the Curry family personally. And I thnik too many people have said things that shuld have not been brought up. Right now the focus shuld be on the loss of a loved one.
