The Foundation House sold to Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services

DANVILLE — The Piedmont Health Foundation has sold The Foundation House at 136 W. Main St. to Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services.

DPCS provides mental health, intellectual disability, substance abuse and prevention services to residents of Danville and Pittsylvania County. Under the new ownership, the facility will be operated as a Regional Crisis Stabilization Program for adults with mental illness.

The Foundation House will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the program will include services from a team of psychiatrists, counselors, nurses, qualified mental-health providers and support personnel.

The Foundation House was developed as a home away from home for the families of critically-ill patients. The facility will continue to provide a service to mentally-ill people who need to be near the hospital and have the privacy provided by the house’s six bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The Danville Regional Health Foundation, the predecessor to the Piedmont Health Foundation, renovated and furnished The Foundation House with donations from more than 400 individuals and organizations. Danville Regional Medical Center and has been operating The Foundation House as a service to the Piedmont Health Foundation.

“We are pleased that The Foundation House can continue to serve persons in our community who have health-care needs can be met through these facilities that so many people had a part in providing,” said Dr. Michael Moore, chairman of the Piedmont Health Foundation. “The fact that citizens of the Dan River Region are concerned about the welfare of each other is demonstrated once more in this new mission for The Foundation House.”

Proceeds from the sale will be dedicated to the Danville Regional Health Foundation’s original purpose — the promotion of health care and improved health status for our community. The Piedmont Health Foundation has not made a final determination as to how it will distribute the Foundation’s funds.

I wonder if the 400 people who paid to renovate and furnish the Foundation House were consulted about this sale. The thousands of folks who built and furnished Memorial Hospital were not consulted before it was sold.
