Police charge Cumberbatch with first-degree murder

Police have arrested a man in conjunction with the Wednesday stabbing of Karen Denise Atkins. Steven Cumberbatch, 46. of Danville was charged with first degree murder, said Lt. Scott Eanes in a statement from the police department. Early Wednesday morning, police officers found Atkins on a front porch on the 100 block of Hamlin Avenue suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and died later in the day, according to police statements.

Eanes said the two knew each other, but didn’t have any more information at this time.

Cumberbatch is being held in the Danville City Jain with no bond.
