Published: July 5, 2009
Police charged a Danville man with driving while intoxicated after rescuers pulled him and his truck out of the Dan River, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.
James Robert Jefferies, 22, was the driver of a 2009 Nissan Titan pickup truck that hit the guardrail, went down the embankment and into the Dan River.
Cpl. T.J. Hawkins noticed damaged to a guardrail on Memorial Drive near Primrose Lane at about 3 a.m. Police found that the truck was still in the water. The Danville Fire Department and Danville Life Saving Crew also arrived to help with the rescue.
Jefferies couldn’t say whether he was the only one in the car, and rescuers searched for other victims. They did not find anyone.

WHY? are we not allowed to voice our opinions?
great police work. to protect and serve at it’s best. silent voice, that was a ridiculous comment and you should just be SILENT.
The way I see it they’re trying to take the spotlight off the officer who shot the little doxen.
I agree; thank you officer and GOD BLESS!
Okay. The title of this story should not be about the DUI…it should be officer saves person… All I can say is that we have an angel among the police force and he should be recognized for saving this young man. Great job to the officer!
That is very observative for an officer to find a wreck like that. I am glad there are such people on the force. Great job.
